King Crab legs Instant pot

In the past, I have baked and steamed crab legs. The results was either dry or soggy, but not very enjoyable.  This time I thought I’d try them in the pressure cooker. Low and behold, they turned out scrumptious. Not dry or soggy.

Snow crab legs recipe takes only 4 minutes from frozen or 3 minutes fresh or defrosted. Where as King Crab legs recipe takes 5 – 8 minutes depending on if they are frozen or defrosted.

Give these a try and let me know !

Equipment

  • Instant Pot
  • 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/4 cup, tbsp
  • Lemon Press
  • Garlic Press

Ingredients

  • 1.5 - 2 lbs King Crab Legs fresh, frozen, defrosted
  • 1 cup water

Optional Garlic Butter Dip

  • 1/2 cup butter organic or vegan butter
  • 1-2 cloves garlic minced with press
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1/4 tsp salt optional
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Slices of lemons or limes optional

Instructions

  • Remove King Crabs legs from the freezer for approximately 10 - 15 minutes, allowing them to thaw slightly so they can bend and fit into the instant pot.
  • Add the Trivet and water to the bottom of the Instant Pot
  • Bend the King Crabs legs, fit them into the pot and place them all on the trivet.
  • Place the lid onto the instant pot, slide it clock wise to close and lock. Then turn the pressure valve to the “SEALING” position. Press the “MANUAL” button, then press the “PRESSURE” button so the “PRESSURE HIGH” lights up, and then press the minus or plus button to 5 minutes. It will take approximately 10 minutes to pressurize.
  • Optional: Begin to make the garlic butter. Placing small pot on stove top medium low, add the butter, crushed garlic, optional salt and pepper. When the butter starts to bubble, immediately turn down the heat to simmer for 5-6 minutes. Remove from heat and cover with a lid.
  • When the instant pot beeper goes off, and if you are using from frozen King Crab legs then wait 3 minutes more. If you are using from fresh or defrosted King Crab legs, then wait 1 minute more.
  • It’s time to remove the lid. Put on an oven glove, step back slightly from the unit, and slowly turn the pressure valve counter clockwise to “quick release” the pressure of hot steam remaining.
  • When the silver pressure dial drops, keep the oven glove on, now turn the lid and slowly remove it taking care of the hot steam.
  • Use tongs to take out the legs and place them on a serving dish. Serve immediately with melted garlic butter and lemon or lime wedges on the side. Enjoy !!
