Perfect Instant Pot White Rice Recipe

For any quick side dish, this recipe can be a quick lunch or side dish. It is a simple 2 step recipe that takes 3 min.

Pairs nicely with Butter Garlic Shrimp. Or add some beans for a plant based protein for Rice Burrito Wraps.  Or even on its own as a side dish and add a little low sodium gluten free Tamari (soy sauce). We also found a low sodium Teriyaki sauce which tastes great as well.

If you need a little zingy spice then you could add in some sriracha sauce.

I mentioned in my brown rice instant pot recipe, that before I purchased the instant pot, making Rice was a chore and it took too much time to make. Now I can come home from a long day and make rice in minutes. And it comes out perfect each time.

If you prefer brown rice which takes 13 minutes in the instant pot, then here is my Brown Rice Instant Pot Recipe.

Pairs nicely with Butter Garlic Shrimp, with some beans for Rice Burrito Wraps, or on its own as a side dish.

For a quick grab and go lunch the next day, I recommend you let it cool first, then place the rice in a zip lock bag and press all of the air out of the bag as you close it.  Simply add a half a can of strained any kind of beans, green peas, chickpeas or protein of choice.

Equipment

  • Instant Pot
  • Fine mesh Strainer
  • 1 cup
  • Fork

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup White rice rinsed well Use Jasmine or Basmati
  • 1 cup cold water

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer really well under running water while stirring it around with your fingers. Rinse until the water runs clear of most of the starch. Shake out most of the excess water. Then add the rice to the Instant Pot
  • Add cold water to the Instant Pot making sure all the rice is under the water.
  • Close the lid and turn clock wise to lock. Set the venting knob to the "SEALING" position.
  • Press the MANUAL button, and plus or minus button to read 3 minutes. The instant pot will begin to pressurize which takes approximately 10 minutes.
  • Once the 3 minute timer beeper goes off, wait until the silver pressure valve drops which is approximately 10 minutes. Put on an oven glove and turn the pressure knob to "VENTING" position to release any steam. Slowly open the lid and put aside. Taking care to avoid the hot steam.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork, serve and enjoy !!
